dX80 founder Daina Tirrell, BSN, RN, trained as a nurse in Chicago before moving to Las Vegas and working the hospital floors through the COVID years. She saw the burnout happen in real time, all around her. The hospitalists were carrying nearly fifty patients at a time. Nurses had seven patients a shift. And the patients were the ones who suffered.
She burned out in the post-COVID fallout, along with most of the people she started with. When she and her husband Mike found out they would be having a baby boy that fall, she took it as the way out of bedside. Being home with her son was the plan, not the consolation prize. Mike left his W2 the same month and launched Four Score Solutions, the AI-first consulting firm he still runs.
After her son was born she took a few hours a week at an outpatient practice to keep her nursing license current. Within six months she had moved off the clinical side entirely, onto the technical, case management and sales work that practice had nobody else to do, and she was building all of it with AI.
Since then she has gone through the tools herself. Physicians are not short on options. New tech vendors appear overnight, each solving a single piece of the practice. But each vendor is paid to make its own product work and to keep getting paid for it. None of them are paid to care how their piece lands next to what a practice already runs. The chain linking those pieces together never existed.
